It used to be that one or at the most, two years before entering a formal school, we were sent to kindergarten to prepare for Primary 1, or Standard 1 as we used to call it before. Following more extensive knowledge as to the timeframe when a child’s brain undergoes rapid growth and development, discerning parents today know how important it is for their child to be exposed to great quality learning environments from as young as two years old to fully leverage on this sensitive learning period. Here, Kiddy123 features one such learning space appropriately named ABC Tot, located in Taman Desa.
Known as a premium foundation school for toddlers, ABC Tot uses the acclaimed Multiple Intelligence Approach in story-based ways. The approach in the early education realm acknowledges the various types of intelligence and intellectual qualities of little ones and leverages on them, respecting the fact that every child is unique in his or her own way. ABC Tot has designed a curriculum which features a toddler-friendly programme that fully supports their growth and development during their golden time of learning.
The Story-Based Multiple Intelligence Approach observed in ABC Tot in its program allows teachers to extract the essence and lessons of selected educational stories to be used in their teaching plan. They design fun and engaging activities that children will love, ensuring that the base lessons from the stories get to positively impact little children, contributing to their holistic development. Via these activities and stories, teachers focus on developing children’s multiple intelligence which may include Linguistic-Verbal Intelligence; Logical-Mathematical Intelligence; Visual-Spatial Intelligence; Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence; and Musical Intelligence among others.
Run by qualified teachers who love children, the program at ABC Tot ensures that children are also nurtured in important aspects of their lives which will contribute to their happiness and wellbeing in their future, such as their behavior, life skills, and also their creativity as unique individuals.
Understanding that parents don’t all have the same schedule be it at work or at home, ABC Tot offers an operating schedule that makes it easier for parents to cope, with various options such as 2 days; 3 days or 5 days of schooling a week. There is also an option of half day or full day for their daycare service. This arrangement has proven to be of great relief for parents who may not be able to cope with a ‘regular’ schedule for their child’s schooling.
ABC Tot understands that with little children, close attention is paramount for the best learning outcome, which is why their classes are kept small. There are classes of 4 students to a teacher, as well as 6 students to a teacher, ensuring personalised attention for all the children.
There is ample emphasis on the cultivation of good behavior and good habits that benefit little ones immensely, as well as daily living skills which will help bring them far in life. Through daily routines, they will also be exposed to good hygiene practices for better self-care. A responsible attitude, good manners and a sense of respect for others are not left out as these qualities help them grow up to be productive, likable adults. They will also be nurtured into developing self-confidence which helps them with their self-worth.
Little ones always look forward to the exciting and interesting activities that await them at ABC Tot. One particular activity they all love is called Collaborative Cooking. It allows them to either team up or work individually to prepare a meal or snacks. On the whole, Collaborative Cooking gives little ones a head start on one of life’s most important skills to have, while teaching them about cooperation, labor division, and of course, helps them have a healthy appreciation for food.
Teachers provide a daily written report of each child's progress, which is uploaded to a mobile app daily. This feature allows parents to stay connected with their child's daily activities and to see the learning that is happening in real-time.
Every weekend, the little ones attending ABC Tot get to enjoy some art-based enrichment brought to them by the Mi Art (Multiple Intelligence Art) programme. Making art is something children naturally love - and evidence of it at home can be detected on the walls, floor, and other places that parents would generally wish for them not to draw/color/scribble on! Joining the Mi Art classes at ABC Tot is a welcome change for kids, and parents will love the way their children flourish in their talents and skills. The MI Art programme helps to cultivate children’s imaginations while developing their physical, emotional, and mental capabilities. Classes available include: Messy Art (3-6 years old); Explorer Art (6-9 years old); and Adventurer (9-12 years old).
