Since opening its doors in 2009, InspiraSeed Kindergarten, Bandar Puteri, Puchong has been a place where children are valued, respected, and encouraged to explore the world around them. Led by the passionate founder and principal, Ms. Jovy Lee, the school is always looking for new ways to make learning meaningful and exciting, and together with a team of dedicated teachers, InspiraSeed ensures that every child has a wonderful, enriching start to their educational journey.
At InspiraSeed, learning goes beyond the four walls of a classroom. The school’s unique approach blends best practices in a variety of approaches, from Montessori and thematic to Reggio Emilia and Malaysia’s national preschool curriculum, all while keeping nature at the heart of learning.
From the moment children step inside, they are greeted by lush greenery, open spaces, and a beautifully maintained garden, an inviting playground for their curiosity and imagination. The semi-open classrooms, with their wooden floors and large windows, create a bright and airy space where kids feel comfortable and inspired.
InspiraSeed’s thematic lessons are inspired by nature, and they change it each year to keep things fresh and exciting. In previous years, children have learned about dinosaurs and how they relate to the soil and earth; then about forests and the flora and fauna within them.
The most recent theme – From Forest to Seed – sees children exploring the wonders of nature, weather, and the elements. Since weather can be a tricky concept to grasp (after all, we can’t see the wind or touch a cloud), teachers have found creative ways to bring these lessons to life.
Instead of just talking about clouds and rain, kids take part in activities like ‘becoming’ clouds – floating and drifting through movement activities outdoors. They imagine themselves as the wind, swirling and dancing during the year-end concert. They even make their own wind vanes to understand how the wind moves. These activities are not just about play, says Ms. Jovy, but are designed to help children reach learning objectives in a more engaging way.
These project-based activities are very effective at encouraging curiosity and problem solving, while also boosting their teamwork and communication skills, as they discuss their observations and findings in class and with their friends.
This year, the school has also introduced a portfolio for each child, which will act as a record for the activities they have done and to keep track of their progress throughout the school year. The portfolio is shared with parents periodically, making it easier for teachers to communicate with parents on their child’s milestones, strengths, and areas of improvement. Additionally, their projects are showcased as exhibitions in school, so children feel a sense of pride and ownership in their work.
Spending time in nature has amazing benefits for children’s emotional wellbeing, which is why Ms. Jovy is keen on promoting nature learning in her kindergarten. “Children who interact with nature regularly are happier, more focused, and confident. At InspiraSeed, the outdoor and green environment helps children feel calm and connected, giving them space to explore, think, and grow,” she says.
Plus, they learn an important lesson: the earth needs our care. Through their experiences, they start to understand why protecting nature is so crucial. After all, can you imagine a world without trees, rivers, and fresh air? InspiraSeed helps children develop a lifelong love for the environment and a sense of responsibility to care for it.
We live in a digital world, and today’s children are already tech-savvy. While gadgets and screens are a part of life, InspiraSeed believes in equipping children with skills that artificial intelligence (AI) can’t replace, like creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
Instead of relying on worksheets, children at InspiraSeed learn by doing. They observe, ask questions, and experiment—building skills that will serve them well in the future, no matter where life takes them.
At InspiraSeed Kindergarten, the goal is simple: to create a place where children wake up excited to go to school every day. With their nature-infused, hands-on approach to learning, kids develop confidence, friendships, and a deep love for discovery.
