At D’FLY Preschool, learning should be fun! Children between the ages 2 to 6 years are given lots of opportunities to explore their environment, discover new things and follow their interests. The preschool is well-stocked with all the materials needed for exciting projects and small group learning. Teachers are innovative and dedicated to ensure that each child has the best possible support in their educational journey.
Our ethos is simple – Happy Children Learn and Grow Well. Each child needs to feel that s/he is understood and valued. We aim to create a positive atmosphere where children can be safe, happy and motivated to learn. It is important for us that each child leaves our preschool with a great experience and that they go to primary school full of eagerness and confidence. Ms. Venice, Principal of D’FLY Preschool
The D’FLY education model is based on the principles of our national preschool curriculum and Finnish early education. Children are guided by a thematic structure that is designed for them to develop a balanced personality and wide skill set through the following areas of learning:
The programmes emphasise on learning by doing. Since young children learn best through play, many of the lessons take place in the form of interactive activities that are hands-on and used to sustain children’s ability to imagine. Children will develop their creativity through storytelling, role plays, exploring different materials in their environment, singing, reading, simple experiments, cooking, art and craft, and much more.
As the days go by, children will demonstrate increasing independence and ability to think critically. They will show confidence in making decisions and be able to apply their knowledge in solving everyday challenges. Through play, children will develop a sense of being part of group and learn to better communicate with peers. Additionally, the mixed age setting allows younger children to learn from the older ones; at the same time, the older bunch gets to build leadership skills when they guide the little ones.
The learning climate in this preschool respects children. It is a place where children receive gentle guidance and encouragement from teachers, while they experiment without fear of failure. Teachers are passionate and inspire a culture of motivational and engaged learning. Children are encouraged to be involved, ask questions and express their minds. Due to the small size of the classes, teachers can observe closely and pay particular attention to each child’s individual needs. Here, children are encouraged to expand their own interests and unique talents to fulfil their ambitions.
Parents are just as important to the school as children are. Daily face-to-face communication and biannual parent-teacher meetings keep parents informed about their child’s progress and behaviour in school. The school also plans to organise regular parent workshops to provide guidance and factual information about topics related to the children. This keeps parents up to date with current happenings, supports children’s learning outside of school and strengthens the home-school partnership.
On top of making sure that the core programmes run smoothly, health and hygiene practices also form a significant part of the daily rhythm of the class. A balanced diet, adequate physical activity and a proper sanitation routine is an important requisite for a positive school experience. Safety in the school goes beyond securely locked doors; the school provides comprehensive protection coverage by connecting each child to health insurance.
Children are off to a good start at D’FLY Preschool, Taman Johor Jaya. The programmes help children learn moral and personal qualities, and integrate all aspects of the child’s experience – senses, intellect, emotions, imagination and body. The whole child learning approach balances each child’s responsibility to learn and freedom to explore. It helps children understand that learning does not end upon graduation at D’FLY, and there is a world of opportunities beyond classroom walls in which they can continue their lifelong learning journey.
