New Sun Moon Kindergarten, Bangsar South gives children more than the ABCs and 123s they need to be the brightest little learners they can be. The team makes every effort to put the fun back into learning, creating a positive impact for children 3 months after birth through 6 years when they transition to primary school.
The Bangsar South branch is overseen by Ms. Aidelle Pang, who works tirelessly to ensure that the kindergarten is at its best state. Ms. Pang has extensive experience in education and has held a variety of roles in Australian and local schools. Her knowledge shines through her experience. She manages to form a special connection with every child that comes along the way and she dearly mentors a team who is just as passionate as her. Being one of the most compassionate souls a person could ever meet, Ms. Pang spends her free time volunteering and finding ways to uplift local communities to the best of her abilities.
The facility is a boutique centre that sits at a corner lot on the lower ground floor of an office tower. After the reception at the front entrance, the secondary entrance opens up to a stimulating learning environment that integrates different age groups into a long space. The venue includes a centralized, multi-functional open area and continues to more private modules at the back. It is one whole welcoming, lively space with children singing as they wait for their turn to be bathed, while others rushing over to Ms. Pang for a big hug. A strong respect for diversity exists under this roof and they invite open conversations that are honest and transparent.
The New Sun Moon curriculum encompasses all the experiences and interactions that are vital to nurture children’s early learning and development. It focuses on play-based learning and encourages children to actively participate in the process to understand more about themselves, as well as the world they belong in. Within an environment that truly respects each child’s unique qualities and abilities, children develop a strong sense of optimism and well-being which enables them to develop a positive attitude to learning.
Teachers draw on their professional knowledge and creativity to improvise their teaching strategies to construct learning experiences that are relevant to children in their local context. Making use of stories, games, activities, role play and spontaneous “teachable moments”, they help children form new understandings on early concepts, such as literacy, numeracy, science and practical life. Not only do they pay attention to children’s learning but also their mind, body and spirit. Every aspect is seen as an important interconnected component, including reciprocal relationships between families and the school.
It is part of an ongoing cycle where the team at New Sun Moon Kindergarten, Bangsar South continuously evaluates the effectiveness of learning opportunities and environments toward realising the desired learning outcomes. Even though every child progresses differently, the school is guided by principles and practices that promote confident learners with experiences and skills that are transferable to other situations in life. Regardless of the coronavirus pandemic or not, the school adapts well to challenges and strives to be better together in unprecedented times.
