Funscape Kindergarten, Bayan Lepas lays the foundations necessary to give children the best possible start to their lifelong learning journey. The centre provides stimulating programmes in a loving home-like environment for 2- to 6-year-olds. Families who enrol their children here do so knowing that their children would benefit from a wholesome teaching approach that promotes holistic development of the whole child.
At Funscape, every child is perceived as a unique individual who has their own talents, learning styles and abilities. Some children may enjoy moving around all day and physically touching objects, while some others may prefer sitting down, demonstrating strong interest in reading and writing. Teachers truly respect this. They understand the importance of facilitating lessons where children can explore the same subject area through multiple different ways. When children are engaged in each of the intelligences (logical-mathematical, verbal-linguistic, bodily-kinesthetic, visual-spatial, interpersonal, intrapersonal, musical and naturalistic), they will be captivated to learn and no one will be left behind.
Contrary to traditional methods of education where children are taught to memorise information even if they do not really understand what or why they are learning, Funscape seeks to change that. It aims to inspire and ignite a passion for learning in children by encouraging them to explore, be active, ask questions and express their ideas. Since children learn best by doing, the programmes at Funscape reflect a myriad of opportunities designed for children to experience new things with all their senses. Through fun activities like snapping photos of the market and field trips, learning goes beyond the confines of the daycare centre. Children learn how to learn instead of what to learn in a variety of hands-on ways; they sing, dance, paint, tell stories, role play, do inner reflections, exercise and play games. Every year, children also get to perform in magical musicals. With these experiences, children will grow to become more confident to try different things and creative in the ways they approach challenges in life.
Besides, not all children learn at the same pace. Rather than forcing children to study a subject at the same rate as the rest of their classmates, teachers at Funscape advocate for child-led learning. They offer children the opportunity to choose their own activity in the different learning corners (art and craft corner, cognitive corner, constructive corner, language corner, science corner, and pretend play corner) set up inside the daycare centre. Children may decide to work with the materials in the science corner, dress up in the pretend play corner or even ask friends to learn together in the cognitive corner. If they chose to do an activity with other children, they will need to work through problems they encounter together as well. Skills such as building friendships and conflict resolution are not easily taught; they need to be led by the child itself and be developed through experiences over time.
Parents who are looking for an easy transition for their little ones from home to preschool will find Funscape to be the right fit. With small classes, personalised attention, safe and hygienic spaces, as well as an open outdoor compound, children will be nurtured to become happy and balanced lifelong learners. The teachers are committed to bringing out the best in every child and they make sure parents are kept well-informed through face-to-face communication, mobile app updates and half-yearly parent-teacher meetings. Considering the positive impact of parents’ involvement in children’s education, it is also a goal of Funscape to hold more parenting talks in the future, giving parents insights into the right tools and methods that can lead to better behaviour, relationships and learning outcomes.
