Popcorn Ingredients:
20 g unsalted butter
50g corn kernels
1g salt
Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat.
Pour in the corn kernels, coat them in oil.
Continue cooking over low heat, stirring constantly, until the first kernel pops. Close the lid immediately and increase the heat to medium-low.
To prevent the popcorn from burning, keep the pan away from the heat every 5 seconds, and give it a good shake to uniformly cook the corn kernels.
At this point, your popcorn should be crackling.
After the cracking has stopped, turn off the heat and evenly whisk in the salt.
Popcorn is done. Set it aside and move on to the caramel making.
Caramel Ingredients:
37g water
70g caster sugar
10 g unsalted butter
Pour water and caster sugar into a pan. Bring to a boil over medium to low heat.
Stir until the caster sugar is completely melted.
Keep stirring until it begins to bubble, turns golden yellow, and finally amber in colour.
Turn off heat, add butter, and mix well. The caramel is then ready.
Pour in the popcorn while the caramel is still hot. Stir everything evenly to ensure each popcorn is beautifully coated with caramel.
Now, your sweet and salty homemade caramelized popcorn is ready! You can eat it right away after it has cooled.
