The City Kindergarten is a part of The City School Network which was established in 1978. It is one of the largest private school networks across the globe having its presence in Malaysia, the Philippines, UAE, Oman, Pakistan, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with 500 schools and over 150,000 students. The success of The City School Network lies in the educational philosophy that each child deserves the best education and should be provided with opportunities for holistic development. It is the aim of The City to continue expanding its reach globally to meet the demands of quality education.
The City Kindergarten, Shah Alam operates out of a spacious two-storey building, set away within a quiet residential area, which is perfect for a school. Inside the expansive location is a wondrous world that is rich in possibilities for children to play, learn and thrive. Parents who want the peace of mind knowing that your children are happy and safe at school, rest assured that every effort is being made to create a secure and responsive environment. Every aspect, from the physical environment to the social environment, is well-organised to support a vast array of activities and the kindergarten’s curricular objectives.
At The City Kindergarten, the teachers seek to give young children confidence in their abilities and skills through a broad and balanced curriculum that is based on the educational framework of the UK Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) plus our local KSPK guidelines. According to this framework, children will have access to varied opportunities to develop their intellectual, social, emotional, cognitive, physical and creative abilities.
“We promote the concept that school life is not one that should just focus on children’s academic needs but should also be a journey that comprises a healthy balance of extracurriculars, essential knowledge and skills, not to mention fun!” says Ms Mamoona Hassan, principal of The City Kindergarten, Shah Alam. Ms Hassan has an extensive 24 years’ experience educating children from early years to A Level in different parts of world. She brings with her a solid understanding of milestones and developmental pathways across each domain of children’s development, which is highly beneficial for The City kindergarteners.
The teachers at The City Kindergarten strive to do all they can to give children the best possible start in their learning journey. “Here, we support child-centred learning and make sure that children play an active role in the class while teachers facilitate the learning process. Children are encouraged to ask questions, participate in group and pair work, contribute their ideas, and demonstrate leadership skills – the essential skills of the 21st century. To keep them engaged during lessons, we use a variety of teaching aids, such as flashcards and visual materials,” explains Ms Hassan. “We ensure that learning is a joyful and interesting experience for our children, and they are motivated to realise their potential and innate talents.”
To ensure children grow into well-rounded individuals who can flourish in all aspects of life, The City Kindergarten includes a broad range of activities into their regular school timetable, including:
Also integral to the kindergarten’s curriculum is a strong language programme that helps children build a strong foundation in English, Bahasa Melayu, Mandarin, Tamil and an Agama Programme for Muslim children.
The City Kindergarten also offers the Cambridge English Dinn and Linn Series and Cambridge Readers to develop strong English skills in young learners. This programme is crucial in preparing children for the demands of Malaysian primary schools, where English is a key subject. Through interactive content and engaging activities, it enhances language proficiency while fostering confidence in communication. The curriculum aligns with international standards, ensuring that children are not only ready for primary school but also equipped for long-term academic success.
By the time they graduate, they will be well-prepared for any primary school of choice.
Parents and guests every year applaud little celebrities of The City Kindergarten blooming on stage at the Annual Concert and Graduation Ceremony where students confidently exhibited their skills such as public speaking, music and movement, taekwondo, and many more! They are also awarded with trophies for their good performance during the year. In addition to that the kindergarten hosts a mega event to display the children’s physical development during the Annual Sports Day.
For the past 10 years, many parents have turned to The City Kindergarten, Shah Alam for its abiding care in putting the children first in everything they do. “The children are very precious to us. We value and respect them, and we are very conscious of the sequences in child development,” says Ms Hassan. Knowing what is typical at a certain age, and making changes to accommodate individual children who may be ahead or behind provides the best foundation for the children. And through ongoing observations, the teachers measure children’s progress, and keep parents informed regularly via different mediums like quarterly 1-to-1 parent-teacher progress meetings, Whatsapp messages, term reports, circulars and informal face-to-face communication. “For the personal care and services that we provide versus the fees we charge, it’s hard to beat!” Call now to enroll!
