Rise N Shine Childcare Centre honours the mind, heart and imagination of every child who enters the centre. Each child is respected as a unique individual. Guided by the research and teachings of Maria Montessori, children are inspired to realise their personal, social and academic potential. The curriculum encourages self-paced, individually guided discovery that stimulates curiosity and creativity, while preparing children for big school. The daily activities of the classroom community foster independent and small group learning, self-confidence and positive self-esteem. Each child at Rise N Shine learns to cooperate and collaborate with a desire for peaceful problem-solving, and develops respect for themselves, others and the society at large.
Welcome to a Space that Inspires Learning and Accommodates Choice
Specifically appointed spaces and carefully designed environments pave the pathway to inspire a lifelong love of learning. The classrooms are open and spacious. There are spaces suited to group activities, areas where a child can choose to work independently and also an outdoor space where they can participate in active play. The design and flow of the classrooms accommodate choice. Parents would not find customary rows of school desks. Instead, children will have the choice to work at tables best fitted to their heights or on the floor. There are feature shelves and display tables with a variety of inviting materials. There are also areas to sit down with a good book or two. The entire space is warm, cozy and inviting, with plenty of natural light to help children feel calm and at home. Even children with mild disabilities do very well in this Montessori environment.

The Montessori curriculum is very closely aligned with our National Preschool Standard curriculum. It exposes children to broad domains of early childhood development – Practical Life, Sensorial, Language (Jolly Phonics, English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin [optional]), Mathematics, Culture and Understanding of the World. Strong emphasis is placed on acquiring a deep understanding of concepts and application of processes rather than memorizing isolated facts and information. Children are guided in their own unique strengths and are engaged in their interests through fun activities such as art and craft, cooking, sensory play, music and movement by Gloria Music, simple science experiments, physical activities, and more. Children are also given the opportunity to express themselves through show and tell sessions. It is not unusual to find a child working slowly through one curriculum area while another going very quickly through another. The availability of a wide variety of materials and the range of teacher’s expertise allow each child to always be working at his or her level with just enough of a challenge.
Exploring the surroundings and connecting with the community is an integral part of the Montessori programme. The centre brings children on field trips, biannually, to enrich their learning in all curricular areas. Children always have a ball even if it was just a trip to a venue around the corner.
A Culture of Community
The centre strives to create a culture of community among the children and their families through special family events and workshops throughout the year. There are many classroom celebrations for children to look forward to and charity events that encourage parents to contribute to such as cooking for an orphanage.
