The mother cradles her new born baby in her arms close to her bosom. The radiance and warmth from their embrace conjures an aura of tranquility and peacefulness. Amidst a gentle evening breeze, mother and child sit looking out over the horizon as the sun slowly sets on another day. This wondrous process of giving life is sometimes very difficult and painful for some. However, as all mothers will tell you, they will gladly and willingly endure any pain or difficulty just so that they are able to hold that little bundle of joy. Those magical moments when a mother first holds her child in her arms are moments to be treasured forever.

After giving birth, there is a period of about one month that is known as the confinement period. For the duration of the confinement period many new mothers today have an option of checking into a confinement centre or confinement hotel. One such centre is SN Confinement Care Centre situated in a quiet housing area in Bandar Baru Seri Petaling. The centre is run by the founder of SN Confinement, Madam Ong.

Being a qualified practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine and with almost twenty years of experience, Madam Ong and SN Confinement is the perfect place to be for mothers who have just given birth. SN Confinement provides comfortable private lodgings, special confinement meals plus experienced and dedicated confinement ladies are always on hand to help and serve.

In this quiet, serene and comfortable environment traditional post-natal practices such as breathing exercises and body massages aimed at helping a new mum recover from the rigours of pregnancy, labour and birth are both more therapeutic and beneficial. This is also a period for the new mum to rest and recondition herself after pregnancy. The quiet environment in and around SN Confinement also grants a new mother a peaceful period of bonding with her baby.

Observance of a special diet during the confinement period is an integral element in the rapid and complete recovery of a new mother’s heath and vigour. The aim of this special diet is to boost the mother’s immune system and strength. There are a variety of dishes that will “warm” the body up. These include fish soups, ginger and traditional tonics brewed with different herbs. These dishes are believed to promote blood circulation and strengthen the joints.

Realising the importance of a good traditional diet and that plenty of rest is essential to a new mother, SN Confinement has undertaken the ardous task of preparing these dishes fresh with Madam Ong herself buying and picking out all the best and freshest ingredients.

All new mothers who check-in at SN Confinement are encouraged to breast feed their newborn. Breastfeeding is the best way for providing young infants with the nutrients they need for healthy growth and development. Colostrum, the yellowish sticky breast milk produced at the end of pregnancy, is recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as the perfect food for the newborn.

We are only able to accommodate up to eight new mothers at any one time. We will not compromise on the quality of our post-natal care by accepting more. This way we are able to offer the new mothers a tranquil and nurturing environment in which to recover and to also bond with their newbornsays Madam Ong

“We value and believe in strong family ties. Sometimes it still brings a tear to my eye when I see a new mother and her young family happy in conversation, laughing at their private jokes or just being content in each other’s company.”

Somewhere in the world, a mother and her newborn sit watching the sun’s fading light. Basking in the warm glow of the evening sky they are content, they are at peace. The only sounds that you hear are their soft and gentle breathing. Silently under the evening star she whispers a wish, “For children, wherever you are, I love you……..”
