Little Montessori World sprang from a desire to provide an authentic Montessori prepared environment for children aged 1.5 to 6 years. The school’s unique strength lies in its commitment to a deeply individualised approach to each child, supported by knowledgeable teachers. Teachers respond to each individual child and inspires him or her intellectually, socially and emotionally. Optimally, it prepares them for life. The personal atmosphere serves to unite families as they watch their children grow to realize their full potential.
Children get to enjoy a beautiful open space that is furnished with tables, chairs, counters, shelving and toilets made to the right size for them. Materials are well-planned to meet their growing needs for exploration, discovery, wonderment of nature, socialisation, movement, self-awareness and independence. This multi-functional environment caters to a wide variety of learners, taking into account different learning styles and addressing the needs of unique individuals. It is a place where every child has a sense of belonging. Additionally, children and families benefit from the inclusion of a psychologist on staff. Learning disabilities and emotional issues can be identified early so children can receive the support that they need.
Learning takes place in small mixed-age groups of 1.5 to 3 years old (Montessori Toddler Programme) and 4 to 6 years old (Montessori Junior Programme). As children are consistently together with others of different ages, an atmosphere of family prevails, providing them with a secure sense of belonging. Children get to demonstrate respect for themselves and each other, forming meaningful friendships, and eventually learn to take on increasing responsibility for their community and the world.
Each day consists of carefully designed and individualized programming where children get to explore their own interests in the areas of Language, Math, Sensorial, Practical Life and Culture. Teachers gently guide children using the principles of freedom and self-directed activity, and children may freely choose activities. This allows each child to have the opportunity to work at their own pace in a non-competitive setting, but at the same time there is the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them.
There are opportunities for individual and group activity, both indoors and outdoors, and always within a caring and nurturing environment. Concrete experiences through hands-on activities lead to a deep understanding of concepts. Many concepts are explored in a transdisciplinary approach through various different themes. Lessons include developmentally appropriate work such as refinement of senses through the use of Montessori materials, exercises in exploring geography and the care of self, storytelling, phonetic exercises, pretend play, art and craft, movement and free play. These activities channel children’s innate curiosity into exploration and experimentation, all amidst developing a confident and independent learner.
Extended day options, enrichment programmes, snack and lunch, and weekend playgroup programmes are offered, making it easier for families to make the most of the hours spent in school. The afterschool programme provides children a place to continue their intellectual growth and stimulation through activities including Mandarin, Bahasa Malaysia, and Mathematics and Science taught in Mandarin. Lunches and snacks consist of a varied menu of nutritious meals cooked using whole foods. For parents who are looking for some purposeful bonding time with their little ones over the weekend, there is a messy play programme in place for children to expand through their senses, and of course, to have fun.
Little Montessori World produces lifelong learners. The Montessori method of education helps each child to acquire learning skills necessary to develop good character habits, adaptability and a sense of responsibility that will last them for the rest of their lives.
