Parents today who are looking around for the ideal preschool for their child must be facing a rather tough time, as there seems to be one in almost every other street, road, or shop block. One name in Bukit Jalil however is currently the talk of the town, so to speak, and it is none other than Knowledge Tree.
Ms Kelly, the founder of Knowledge Tree, has always shown keen interest in early education since a young age. She even took a break from her job as a teacher to further her studies in this profession overseas. Having acquired the accreditation she sought after, Ms Kelly proceeded to what seemed natural to her, that is to set up a preschool and run it according to how she envisioned it. Knowledge Tree was consequently established in 2006.
For Ms Kelly, the Montessori has always had a special place in her heart. However, in this ever-progressing world, she feels that education, especially during the critical developing years, has to also catch up with the times for the benefit of children. Hence, as she explained to Kiddy 123 recently, it doesn’t seem wise to fully depend on this age-old curriculum for the education of little children. What ensued was a curriculum that borrowed the ideas of Montessori, which were adapted for the best learning experiences of preschool children, providing them with a great head start in their education while preparing them for entry into primary school.
One of four branches in Klang Valley, the Knowledge Tree Bukit Jalil owes its success to its team of passionate teachers who love to work with children. Speaking of teachers, it is a known fact that some of them have been teachers at Knowledge Tree for the past 15 years or so. And why is this important to know? Well, happy employees tend to be the ones who give their best, and by doing so, parents too can expect the best from the preschool!
When I established Knowledge Tree, I was determined to provide high quality education to children in a safe, engaging space, specially designed for them to flourish. Together with my dedicated team, I am happy to offer this carefully planned curriculum which uses the Montessori approach as its base. My aim is for children to learn, develop and be well prepared for their schooling journey ahead. Ms Kelly, Founder of Knowledge Tree
When asked what would make a preschool stand out among the rest, My Kelly replied almost immediately, “Its curriculum.” Indeed it is the main element of a preschool, and may also be the deciding factor for parents looking for a good preschool for their children. Knowledge Tree offers a curriculum that focuses on all the important aspects of child development. Language proficiency is one example of a development area that is taken seriously here, with specifically designed materials to help students excel in written and spoken English. There are also special colour-coded books made available to them for this purpose. In addition, children get to participate in fun drama classes from Pyjama Drama – a drama and imaginative play programme that aims to develop children’s key skills by sparking their imaginations. During these classes, children sing, dance, pretend and play games to develop better confidence, communication, cooperation and concentration.
The balance of learning and playing is also an important factor, and parents are sure to agree. A well-proportioned programme with the ideal ratio of play and learn, which is what Knowledge Tree offers, delivers the best results in early education! And are the students thriving? Indeed they are!
Plus, to top it off, Knowledge Tree also exposes its students and staff to a daily practice called Mindfulness that keeps their minds calm and thoughts sharp. The preschool understands the powerful benefits of mindfulness on children’s overall development, so much so that they engaged a mindfulness coach from overseas to train their teachers to effectively carry out this practice in school. Through specially designed activities, children learn how to regulate their emotions, focus better on the tasks at school and develop a positive outlook towards the challenges they encounter every day – which are all very helpful skills that children can carry through into their adult lives.
There are four levels of preschool programmes offered in a progressive manner at Knowledge Tree, beginning at the Pre-Mont Level, where littles one will learn to use Montessori materials for their learning advantage. They’ll also be introduced to basic math skills, as well as crucial daily practical life skills. This will be followed by Level 1, level 2, and Level 3 where students will pick up lessons in Math, Science, English, Bahasa Malaysia as well as Mandarin. While preparing students academically for primary school, Knowledge Tree also ensures that children get to move their bodies via exercising, games, to help them release pent up energy! Childcare services as well as enriching after school activities are also made available for families Some of the after-school activities or classes include Music; Arts & Crafts; Speech & Drama, as well as Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin, etc.
The learning environment at Knowledge Tree is always kept engaging and welcoming, which in turn beckons children to learn, explore, ask questions, and of course play and make friends. It is after all, an adaptation of the famed Montessori approach, only made more effective for modern day early education. Everything about the environment at Knowledge Tree spells fun and engagement, ensuring that children will always want to learn more. With the guidance of the preschool’s caring and supportive teachers, students who go here have a much better chance of thriving in their chosen primary school later on.
