Hua Xia International School (HXIS), Seri Kembangan is nothing short of a strong school profile. The curricular offerings, facilities, academic team, as well as the attention to growing an awareness of global citizenship, are truly a draw for the families who enrol here. At HXIS, they endeavour to provide an inclusive environment for the students who come from near and far to continually challenge themselves to their full potential.
The school sits within a guarded secure building in Wisma Huazong, Seri Kembangan, complete with CCTV cameras used to monitor all activities within the compound at all times. The facility is an apt expression of the school’s goals. It offers well-equipped learning environments with spacious settings, including a multipurpose hall, computer room, indoor sports complex, cafeteria, library, science lab, reading corner, large field and sick bay. Classrooms are fitted with interactive smart boards, as such, children are engaged in a multidimensional environment where the core curriculum is delivered in consort with an effort to foster collaborative learning, creativity and innovation.
At HXIS, students are inspired to aim high, beyond academic accomplishments, and never lose sight of embracing their own uniqueness and talents. The teachers work hard to arm them with skills that are vital to becoming successful global citizens, so that they will be ready to face the future with confidence, independence and leadership.
A supportive academic atmosphere sets tone to an all-rounded educational experience here at HXIS, beginning with the Early Years Foundation. The foundation comprises Pre-Nursery to Kindergarten programmes, providing learners aged 1.5 to 6 years with a strong basis in the basics for future learning. Play and exploration underpin the first taste of learning for the little ones. A variety of thematic play-based and structured activities are used in the education process, striking a fine balance between both teacher-led and student-initiated learning. Activities are consolidated across the following prime areas: personal, social and emotional development, physical development, communication and language development, literacy development, mathematics, understanding world leadership, and expressive arts and design. Instruction is inquiry-based, seeking to build on children’s curiosity, talents and interests. Learning is facilitated by tried and tested teaching aids like educational toys and handmade teaching props. The school’s platform is used to help children lay a strong foundation for their next stages of education.
HXIS provides a broad and balanced education for its students by offering a Secondary programme. This five-year Cambridge framework provides excellent preparation for any paths students choose to pursue post-secondary. Students in this stage have specialist teachers for each of their subjects and they will sit for a globally recognised International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) exam at the end of Year 11. Throughout, students take active roles in their learning, working on projects that reinforces lessons, collaborating with each other in peer-to-peer discussions, communicating outcomes through presentations, and practising soft skills that can be transferred to many different areas of their lives. As part of HXIS’ quality education, students get to participate in a variety of activities, such as robotics, volleyball, taekwondo, entrepreneur day, book week, races and treasure hunts, to further enrich their student experience.
Ultimately, HXIS demonstrates a strong intention to deliver students who will be confident in their ability to whoever they aspire to be and can be, their relationships with others, and their place in the world. The student-centred, active learning experiences are a promise for the future, and in the words of John Dewey, “If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow.”
