Easy Chinese New Year 2022 Crafts for Kids

It feels like the Christmas and New Year parties are only just over, but before the dust settles, it’s time to prepare for the Lunar New Year. This year we usher in the Year of the Tiger and here are some quick and easy craft ideas for the kids.

1. Tiger Bean Mosaic

You will need:

• Art card (or coloured paper)
• Glue
• An assortment of beans (or coloured rice)
• Black marker pen
• Googley eyes

i) Print out the tiger template (PDF) on a piece of art card. Go over the outline with a black marker pen.

ii) Apply a thin layer of glue inside the drawing and stick the beans or coloured rice. Work on one section at a time.  

2. Tiger Lantern Ornament

You will need:

• Felt (or coloured paper)
• Double-sided tape (or glue)
• Scissors
• String

i) Cut the pieces on felt or coloured paper (PDF). Stick them on the lantern base.

ii) To make the firecrackers, roll and stick paper tubes.

iii) Assemble the ornament.

3. Tiger Paper Bag Puppet

You will need:

• Paper bag
• Coloured paper
• Scissors
• Glue stick

i) Print the template (PDF) and cut out the pieces.

ii)  Stick the pieces on the paper bag to create the tiger puppet. Once completed, get creative and have fun with the puppet eg. storytelling, pretend play, sing-a-long, etc.
