Mother’s Day is a little different this year, to say the least. During pre-coronavirus times, which seems like Jurassic years ago now, we were probably planning all the fun things to do and places to take mum out to. But being under quarantine doesn’t mean not being able to celebrate and having to cast Mother’s Day aside altogether. With a little creativity, you can still commemorate this occasion and make mum feel extra special this year. Check out our list of social distancing celebration ideas. We’re sure mum will give a nod of approval.

Obviously, nothing beats celebrating in-person but a simple phone call can do wonders too. Arrange a time to make a FaceTime call or get the whole family on Zoom and chat over a cup of tea.

Since it's still not the best idea to gallivant around town and dine out this year, drop off her favourite dish(es) on her doorstep. Whip up something yourself or if you’re not the best cook, support a local restaurant, and order takeout.
Surprising her with a thoughtful gift, like a video montage of memorable moments, or, if it’s from the little ones, something crafty like this Mother’s Day card from our worksheets section, will put a smile on mum’s face.

Bring out the popcorn and enjoy the cinematic experience from the comfort of your own home. Host a movie night online using movie streaming app extensions that allow you to sync videos with mum and add a live chat on the side of the screen.

Online courses started popping up like mushrooms since we’ve been put under a movement restriction order. Set up your screens and sign up for a virtual class you can attend together. Be it baking, fitness, dance or anything mum’s interested in.

Mother’s Day is about honouring all mothers, not just your own. Amidst the uncertainties now, some could really use some help for basic necessities. Donate to support local fundraisers such as Rumah Kita – a non-governmental organisation that provides for abandoned single mothers.
