Mother’s Day is celebrated with lot of enthusiasm in over 46 countries across the globe. Though Mother’s Day celebrations take place at different times around the world what is remarkably same are the feelings with which people celebrate Mother’s Day. It’s the day to celebrate, appreciate, laude and commemorate the person who has sacrificed so much, painstakingly carried us for nine months, brought us out into the world, and then continued to nurture and raise us as useful, independent and successful adults. All over the world, people love to celebrate Mother’s Day with their mothers and shower love on them.
Here are 8 ways to celebrate Mother’s Day that doesn’t cost a fortune, yet makes it memorable for that one-and-only special person whom we called Mother.
1. Create a Scrapbook
Take photos of your mum with the family or dig out the family album and pick the funniest or sweetest photos and compile them onto the scrapbook and add in some little hand-written notes. These photos are like small pieces of a jigsaw that complete the larger picture of your family’s lives, that holds meaningful and memorable stories that evolved throughout the years.
2. Prepare Meals
You don’t need to be a Masterchef to whip a good meal for your mum. A simple pancake or fried spaghetti for breakfast is good enough to keep mum happy. As the Spanish saying goes: “barriga llena, corazón content”, which means “A full stomach makes a happy heart”. You can simply search online for recipes or watch it on YouTube, then practice your culinary skills before the special day arrives. Your mum will surely appreciate it and feel proud of your skills.
3. Create Handicraft
If you love and enjoy handiwork, then create something special for your mum. Handicrafts such as crocheting, knitting, quilting, embroidery and jewellery making, which your mum can proudly wear and flaunt it off.
4. Spending Time Outdoors
If you have the budget, then take your mum to a nice vacation. However, if you’re on a tight budget, a simple getaway or road trip to other states will be great. Head down to the beach or have a bike ride, a stroll or a picnic at the park or lake. Perhaps if your mum is a food lover, then take a road trip to Malacca, Ipoh or Penang and eat to her heart’s content. It’s her day after all.
5. Simple Celebration
Gather your mum, grandmas, great-grandmas, sisters, aunts and cousins and celebrate Mother’s Day together. It doesn’t have to be expensive or extravagant. Just a simple barbeque at home or steamboat or even potluck is enough to create a warm and joyous atmosphere. It’s a good way to share and relive childhood memories or even some parenting tips.
6. Written Message
Write a poem or a heartfelt letter expressing your love and appreciation to Mum. Handwritten messages are a good and sincere way to show your gratitude for the sacrifices your mum has done for you. Don’t worry about grammar mistakes or broken sentences, your mum will still understand what you are trying to convey.
7. Relaxation Pampering
Take your mom out for a nice and relaxing grooming and pampering session, such as manicure and pedicure, facial treatment, hair treatment or massage therapy. Mums want to look good and feel good, too. And it’s a good bonding mother-daughter time. You can chat and catch up with each other’s life while having your manicure and pedicure done.
8. Fun Entertainment
If your mum love to watch movie, take your mum out for a movie date. Or if your mum loves singing, take her for a karaoke session and let her sing her heart out. If she loves shopping, then take her for a shopping spree (skip this if you’re on a tight budget). It’s a nice way to de-stress herself and yourself, too.
