Tadika Anak Manis educates and caters for children between 3 to 6 years old. It is situated in a quiet residential area in USJ 12 Subang Jaya and the feeling of being a home away from home is fostered amongst the children. The preschool looks traditional on the outside but provides a warm, intimate and nurturing atmosphere inside. It incorporates dedicated classrooms, neatly arranged learning materials and an outdoor area for children to run or kick a ball, and get physical. The friendly and safe environment provides an educational opportunity for all children to learn and develop academically. It provides the convenience of a full day care for parents and freshly cooked meals for children to grow.
The preschool was established in 2002 by Ms. Wong, a dedicated educationist with 35 years of experience and a strong passion for teaching. She works hard to honour the tradition of providing children with a solid early childhood education that is instilled with positive discipline.
Teachers in the school share the same values to prepare children for a smooth transition to primary school. It is apparent that children in here are guided to behave appropriately, and develop important management skills like initiating the effort to read and complete their homework. Clear boundaries are set for children to follow through to become independent, well-behaved and self-disciplined learners.
A teacher-directed learning approach is used to foster the academic, moral, social, emotional and physical development of children. The programme implemented is based upon the principles outlined in the National Preschool Standard Curriculum framework. Lessons are centred around common themes which give a coordinated way to facilitate learning. It enables children to easily relate to prior knowledge and consolidate their skills in key subject areas: language, mathematics, science, moral, music and movement, art and craft, and physical activities. The school program places a strong emphasis on developing fluent trilingual language acquisition and literacy skills; children are encouraged to strengthen their literacy capabilities in English, Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia through a combination of early readers children’s books published by Ladybug, Peter and Jane, and Odonata. The teachers focus on strengthening students’ word recognition ability so that they can have a strong foundation for doing well when they go to primary school.
At Tadika Anak Manis, students benefit from learning in small groups. This provides more opportunities for children to participate in the class while teachers can give better feedback to support students’ individual needs.
To complement the academic learning, the preschool offers a variety of extracurricular activities to mould children into well-rounded individuals. Activities including mental arithmetic, art, Taekwondo and piano enhances children’s skills, creativity and character. To promote optimal learning, the programme strives to deliver a balance between indoor learning and outdoor activities. The school also sees the benefits of engaging children in public speaking experiences at a young age. Every child will get the opportunity to speak to a relatively big audience, improve their public speaking skills and build their confidence.
Twice yearly, parents get to learn about their children’s development, behaviour and progress during parent-teacher meetings. Teachers will highlight children’s strengths and weaknesses, and discuss ways for parents to support learning at home. Children’s abilities and levels of knowledge are measured regularly through simple exams held during the school year. The results allow parents, as well as teachers, to better understand children’s academic position and adjust accordingly.
Tadika Anak Manis understands the importance of engaging children in age-appropriate activities that are not too demanding for their capabilities. Teachers feel the need to inspire children with an enthusiasm for lifelong learning, encouraging children to continue to be effective learners as they proceed to primary school.
