Being able to have a positive impact on any child is a privilege like no other – This statement was shared by Ms Cassie Flemming in a recent interview with Kiddy123. Cassie, a dedicated mom and passionate educator, was once the head of Year 2 in Hill House Prep School, the very one attended by King Charles of UK. Having a fair share of experiences in educating and guiding children of all ages, she fell in love with the early years teaching here in Malaysia, and has been at the helm of Sri KDU International School, Subang Jaya since January 2019.
As part of a pioneer name in international education in Malaysia, one with 20 years of experience nonetheless, Sri KDU International School, Subang Jaya is known for delivering a high quality, well- rounded education by means of the British curriculum, as it endeavours in empowering future leaders by equipping them for 21st century learning and living. Highly engaging lessons, in safe yet fun learning environments make for more relaxed, receptive minds which in turn learn more efficiently. Many factors come into play to achieve this, including qualified and passionate teachers, caring staff, top-notch equipment, and of course, a safe, conducive learning atmosphere - all of which make Sri KDU International School, Subang Jaya what it is today.
Given the right tools and the right exposure, any child can be profoundly impacted by means of an excellent education, and Ms Cassie truly believes that Sri KDU International School, Subang Jaya is capable of affecting in such ways. The skill-based approach used here helps students to be more than just academically prepared, but also ready to take on the challenges and responsibilities that may come their way in the future. “When they find themselves in job interviews later on in life, unless they have engaging personalities, and of course, some important skill-sets, they may not get to go far. Hence, this skill-based approach is the driving force behind the education we offer to our students.”
Acknowledging the needs of the community is another way Sri KDU International School, Subang Jaya remains competitive and relevant in this thriving industry of international education. Take for example, its consistent approach to care, particularly in the Early Years. Ms Cassie has taken to making small tweaks now and then, in the name of continuous improvement, and one of them was the setting up of a playgroup for the benefit of moms in the community with children aged from 18 months to three years old, where they can come in and make use of the facilities as well as the expertise at hand in the school. This playgroup is available twice weekly, on Mondays and Fridays. Another tweak made was in regard to the display arrangements in the school to ensure that each child’s artwork gets a chance to be displayed for all to view, and to be celebrated, so to speak. Yet another was the setting up of additional car parking space, which was a welcome change which had a positive impact on many!
Just knowing that one is in a position to positively impact a child in ways that profoundly affect their future is such a joy. We obviously have to also have the right attitude, particularly with the little ones. It is a demanding job, but such a rewarding one as well. I know that whenever I’m having a tough day, I just make my way to the Early Years and sit among them. For me, it is one of the best ways to de-stress ~ Cassie Fleming, Principal, and mom of three.
21st century schooling, as we know it, does away with long lectures, endless copying off boards and rote-learning. Sri KDU International School, Subang Jaya is one fine example of a school with student-led learning. The students are well-guided and monitored, yet are in control of their own learning environment in which they thrive and develop in. There is always plenty of room for discovery as well as inquiry, and teachers play a huge role in helping their students reach their highest potential.
The ultimate aim for families is for their child to perform well in school and achieve the academic qualification that will afford them access to a fine university. It has always been the aim of Sri KDU International School, Subang Jaya to ensure its students reach such desired educational outcomes. With all the important core values woven into Sri KDU International School’s academic and co-curriculum programmes, students are encouraged to be highly engaged in their lessons, be independent in their learning, and to always be ready to take on responsibilities. As future leaders, they are taught not only to have a sense of self-respect, but also to embrace diversity and practice tolerance so as to have a positive interest and awareness of people of other races, cultures, etc. Above all, the ultimate goal of Sri KDU International School, Subang Jaya is that its students emerge as graduates who are skillful and have the ability to make great choices in life.
