Pine Hills International School (PHIS), USJ Subang Jaya is an inclusive international school committed to celebrating individuality and developing inquisitive learners who will be well equipped for life. PHIS provides British-based education for students aged 3 years and above across their Preschool Programme, Primary Programme, Secondary Programme and A Levels.
PHIS is located in Subang Light Industrial Park with modern equipment and facilities available on campus. It is equipped with classrooms that are fitted with interactive SMART Boards, ICT lab, dance studio, well-stocked library and art studio. Classrooms also feature a flexible design that includes versatile group gathering areas, multiple seating options and flex zones that can be adapted for 21st century learning. Additionally, students also get to access a spacious outdoor field, which is just a short ride away.
At PHIS Preschool, students take their first steps of learning in a happy, secure environment that is guided by a combination of the Reggio Emilia approach and the British Early Years Foundation Stage framework. A wide range of play-based and multisensory activities are used to teach students fundamental literacy and numeracy concepts, as well as social-emotional skills. Throughout their time here, students have opportunities to explore, follow their interests and take ownership over their learning. This creates a great sense of wonder that promotes creativity and inspires them to learn more about the world around them.
PHIS progressively builds upon the knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired during the preschool years, preparing students for university and the future. The primary to post-secondary programmes place equal emphasis on academic rigour, digital literacy and the development of essential life skills. Students are encouraged to initiate inquiry and ask questions, make choices and decisions, learn how to learn, work collaboratively with others, and establish personal values that support international mindedness. Learning at PHIS focuses on helping students fulfill their personal and academic potential to the fullest.
There are also many fun co-curricular activities that students get to choose from. The options include board game, kindness club and entrepreneurial club. As part of the school’s commitment to deliver the best education for students, PHIS plans to introduce even more IGCSE subjects in the near future. Students can expect to elect subjects such as food and nutrition, design technology, and enterprise education.
Despite the challenges Covid-19 presents, PHIS is well-prepared to continue to provide a high-quality experience through hybrid online learning. The online platform uses an easy-to-use interface that allows students to log in wherever they are and resume live lessons according to their pre-pandemic timetable. Lessons can be recorded and retrieved anytime students need to go through a certain section again.
PHIS goes the distance to make sure every child including those with special needs has the opportunity they deserve to learn and excel despite their circumstances. Supported by their Gifted Kids department, special needs students will have access to personalised treatment from professional therapists. This will eventually help them achieve the greatest level of independence possible and be able learn at par with their peers in a mainstream setting.
On top of that, students at PHIS are taught to be mindful of the needs and requirements of those around them, and get long with students of different abilities and backgrounds.
Every teacher at PHIS have at least a bachelor’s or master’s degree. They receive timely training and reflect on their professional development regularly in order to improve learning outcomes for students. Furthermore, they make sure to update parents on their children’s progress in school. Parents have access to an app where they can stay on top of what’s happening at their fingertips.
Ultimately, PHIS demonstrates strong intention to develop independent lifelong learners who are confident in their ability to be whoever they aspire to be and can be.
