Little Shepherd Academy, Ara Damansara is a boutique preschool that prides itself on being focused on the well-being of the children and providing them quality education. Being a smaller service, teachers can truly tailor every aspect based on each child’s interests and developmental needs. As parents, you will be able to see your child flourish as they hit each milestone under the care of the staff here.
Ms. Zoe, the principal, opened the doors of Little Shepherd Academy to “Ignite a Brighter Future” for children aged 3 to 6 years. At the heart of who they are and what they do, the school is committed to providing an educational experience based on these core values: Love (a deep appreciation for each other and the work that they do); Fun (enjoying every moment while instilling motivation for fun learning); Safety (creating an environment where everyone feels safe, connected and confident to be themselves.
The school offers a preschool programme that adheres to the National Preschool Curriculum Standard (KSPK). It covers varied areas of learning, including language, reading, writing, mathematics, science, art, music, coding, physical movement and more. Teachers pay attention to what children are interested in and plan themes or projects that help children expand their skills and knowledge. To allow children to get a deeper understanding of each subject, a lot of real-life materials are used. They are given plenty of time to explore with teachers asking questions to stretch children’s thinking, as well as offering suggestions that encourage more complex play and thinking.
Additionally, early music education is identified as an important part of the core curriculum too. It is offered through the popular music programme – Kindermusik. Besides being able to learn rhythm and rhyme, these multi-sensorial musical lessons support the development of the whole child. There are also interesting enrichment programmes, such as Taekwondo, belly dancing and ballet, to foster well-rounded children.
Learning here is much more than just preparing children for primary school. Children are continued to be supported in many ways – socially, emotionally, and in speaking and listening skills. By learning and playing together, children build social skills, self-control and communication skills. When they try new things and keep working at difficult tasks, their self-esteem strengthens. As they ask questions and learn to think more complexly, they improve their decision making and problem-solving skills.
Teachers at Little Shepherd Academy work very closely with the parents to ensure the everyday learning environment is also incorporated into their home lives. Parents are encouraged to be engaged in their children’s school lives to boost better results and to create a school community that is supportive of each other. On a side note, extended daycare is also offered until 7.30p.m. and on Saturdays, upon request, to cater to working parents.
The way teachers love and care for the children, and also the passion they have for education, makes Little Shepherd Academy much more than just a preschool. It feels like home and parents can have complete peace of mind knowing that their children will be on a happy and fulfilled educational journey.
