Parents these days have quite a lot on their plate when it comes to their children’s early education. Moreover, little ones themselves may have different kinds of learning needs, in accordance with their daily environment, habits, their likes and dislikes, etc. They may also be accustomed to having lots of screen time, especially since their parents may have unwittingly resorted to using their handphones as a ‘babysitter’ while they run errands or catch a breather.
Consequently, many parents these days find themselves worrying about finding a preschool that will accept their child, who, not necessarily has a learning disability or has special learning needs, but rather, they exhibit symptoms of long-term screen time, such as shorter attention span, inability to focus, etc. Via its team of professionals, and with the cooperation of parents, Joyous Preschool is more than ready to help remedy such situations and provide little ones the quality, engaging early education they require to thrive and prepare for primary school.
Established in 2015 as a therapy centre for kids with special needs, Joyous Preschool became an inclusive preschool in 2017 following word of mouth and not to mention, the quality of early education. Today, children from various walks of life and various learning levels can obtain the most crucial education in life, namely, their early education, at this well-known preschool. Specifically designed weekly themes and an engaging play-based curriculum are among the preschool’s key highlights which make a difference in the outcome of today’s bright, young learners, as do skillful, qualified teachers who love their jobs.
Play is the work of children, and at Joyous Preschool, play is truly the key to effective learning! While adhering to the national preschool syllabus, namely Kurikulum Standard Prasekolah Kebangsaan (KSPK), Joyous Preschool utilises the unbeatable appeal of a play-based approach and thematic learning to attract and retain the attention of children in the subjects such as Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics, Science and Mandarin to ensure that children are well-prepared to enter primary school.
Ong Chiau Yi, the Head Of Operations at Joyous Preschool explained, on its own, this syllabus can be quite difficult to cope with. “When it comes to languages, for example, our little ones have quite a lot to handle in terms of learning, understanding, and memorising the vocabulary, etc. Here is where play makes a difference, and so do hands-on activities,” she shared on the preschool’s play and activity-based teaching approach. Children do not even realise that they are actually learning every step of the way while getting themselves prepared for primary school.
Ong also remarked that one of her students had a question for her every morning, and it was: Teacher, what will we be playing today? Obviously, the child enjoys learning due to the well-planned lessons disguised as play. The preschool also uses the powerful appeal of learning themes which can be anything from a color, to an animal, plant, specific scene, event, etc, which children can easily relate to and ponder over. These themes are changed weekly to keep lessons fresh and exciting!
At Joyous Preschool, little ones are taught in classrooms with peers of their same age, and depending on the number of students, there will be 1 or 2 teachers in a classroom of between 7 to 15 students. These smaller-sized classrooms ensure engaging interaction whereby each student gets the care, attention and guidance they require to thrive. For the younger age group, namely the Toddler Care Programme, the teacher to children ratio is just 1:5 to allow the highest quality care and attention.
Apart from its indoor playground where children can just play, explore and discover, another feature that stands out at Joyous Preschool is its specially designed Learning Corners, which are available at various spots around the preschool. These spaces each have different themes created to enrich little ones’ learning experiences and they include pretend play, construction area, reading corner, and so on.
Each teacher at Joyous Preschool is screened for their qualification, child management skills, as well as their attitude and ability to work with children and make a difference in their young, impressionable lives. Mock classes are also conducted to ascertain if a candidate is truly capable of the crucial task of guiding and molding these precious young minds. Twice a year, teachers and parents meet up and have open dialogues and discussions on how to best help their little ones improve and excel. Instead of merely pointing out possible issues in children that need addressing, Joyous Preschool believes strongly in suggesting and providing solutions, and in helping parents overcome hurdles when it comes to their children’s early education.
