Introduction

Our center is a Mandarin preschool dedicated to cultivating joyful learning and growth through interactive experiences. We strongly believe in the value of hands-on learning, where children actively engage with their environment to explore and discover. Outdoor activities such as water play, sand play, planting, and cooking are integral parts of our curriculum, providing children with opportunities to develop various skills while having fun.

We are committed to preparing children for SJKC schools by offering a comprehensive curriculum that not only focuses on academic readiness but also fosters social, emotional, and physical development.

By nurturing a love for learning and providing a supportive and stimulating environment, we aim to ensure that every child enjoys a happy and fulfilling childhood while acquiring the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in primary school and beyond.

My daughter started attending Mandarin Lighthaus when she was 2, and she continued until she turned 4 and we moved back to the US. My daughter started off with very little interest and comprehension in Mandarin, but Mandarin Lighthaus was an incredible school for her to grow in both, and I’m so thankful we sent our daughter there part-time!

For context: My husband and I are both ABC’s (American-born Chinese), so we realized quickly that we needed support to help our daughter learn Chinese. From what we’ve seen, there is a mix of students who come from a Chinese-speaking background and also those that do not.

Things that we appreciated about this school:

1. The teachers and staff: My daughter had two teachers in her time here, and she grew to love both of them! I’m so grateful for the ways her teachers cared for her and how kind the staff were.

2. The methodology: Mandarin Lighthaus combined a mixture of academic lessons and play to help my daughter develop a genuine interest in Mandarin and also learn to better speak, write, and read it. They made their lessons fun and engaging - even during Covid through Zoom!

3. The intentionality: It’s difficult to teach students at various levels, but this school does it well. The small class sizes help. The teachers met my daughter where she was at and also helped us as parents to best support her learning. In our parent-teacher meetings, it was evident that they really knew and cared for her.

Some additional perks: They do a lot of fun art and craft activities, songs, and games so children can better learn Mandarin. Example: They had a science camp extracurricular that our daughter really enjoyed. Additionally, they took Covid seriously and we felt very safe with the way they handled the children’s safety. Plus they did an incredible job preparing weekly homework packets for the kids with needed books, art supplies, etc.

I am grateful for our time with Mandarin Lighthaus, and I would recommend any parent looking to help their child improve their Mandarin to check out this school.

My kid has been with Mandarin Lighthaus since pre-school and now joining their after school primary tuition/day care. The school experience is truly exceptional, providing a highly conducive environment where children thrived. My kid has dedicated and skilled teachers and she loves the nurturing atmosphere and always having fun with teachers and friends.

It was evident that the combination of a well-designed space, enthusiastic educators, and engaging activities resulted in a fun and enjoyable experience for the kids. My kid loves coming to school and so glad I chose MLC to prepare her proficiency in Mandarin.

We are non Chinese speaking but i wanted to send my son to chinese primary school. We are looking for the kindergarten that can help on Madarin and not too focus of subject as early childhood, i want him to play more and it not easy to find these type of school in KL. I decided to send my 1st son to Mandarin Lighthaus in 2018. Now he is in Kuen Cheng 2 and survives for the 1st year there. Thanks to all the teacher. They are very interactive and responsive to parents. They will msg us if they have any concerns of the children. Now my 2nd one is in Madarin Lighthouse as well and he love all art and crafts in the school.

Kids are given a balanced dose of play + learning, with effective & engaging materials regularly. There are also excellent initiatives taken to engage students with after-school activities (eg storytelling, robotics), and a very clear line of communication with parents
