Here, children are always at the heart of all aspects of the school – as outlined in its motto “Children First”. It is the needs of the children that determine the managing decisions made by the team. For parents who entrust their children to the teachers here, rest assured that they are in good hands; No matter where each child’s strengths and unique abilities lie, the teachers will remain committed to the continual pursuit of the child’s personal best.
Within the PowerKids family, the teachers are not only properly trained for their job but also dedicated to maintaining healthy environments for children where caring relationships and respect are embraced. These principles – Academic excellence, Building character and Cultivating moral values – form the foundation that guides the work that they do every day.
For children, the early years are a crucial time of development for them. It is what they learn during this stage that prepares them for future success. The curriculum at PowerKids is thus underpinned by the standards of a progressive and globally minded education framework called The FunGates System. The practices are also in accordance with the educational policies set by our Ministry of Education.
With the FunGates curriculum, children are exposed to ample avenues of learning to ensure they are well nurtured academically, socially and emotionally. They are introduced to languages, mathematics, science, art and craft, music and physical movement in ways that are appropriate for their age and abilities. Every day, teachers are delighted to encourage children to discover the world around them through a multitude of fun, hands-on learning experiences. On this exciting journey, teachers also help children to unlock their unique talents and interests and allow their innate abilities to flourish. This engaging curriculum inspires children to actively participate in their learning, think creatively to address challenges, establish good habits and learn how to connect with others, while developing a strong sense of themselves. All these will lead the way for them to thrive in the 21st century.
Most certainly, children need much more for a wholesome education. Besides nourishing lunches, the kindergarten’s after-school programme is enriched with sessions like guided homework time, domestic science, language enhancement, and speech and drama; there is an innovation centre filled with educational apparatuses that can stimulate children’s creativity and critical thinking through games and activities. Extracurricular activities such as educational field trips, sports days and graduation concerts are also set in place to provide a productive break from the daily routine.
On top of that, there is a strong emphasis on supporting children’s mental health, especially during the last two years; after all, children’s feelings affect their overall development and academic success. For children to have a more positive attitude towards learning, teachers embed activities like show and tell in the morning well-being sessions, as well as include brain breaks into the online lessons (which were very well received by the children). It is also the school’s culture for teachers to positively reinforce children with effective praise and positive comments rather than concentrating on what the child is doing wrong. It is clear why children are eager to go to school every day, even when they were not well.
Being engaged with the FunGates education system allows children to grow philanthropically as well. From a young age, they discover how they can contribute to the world and help those in need through the FunGates Superflow Foundation – which supports groups like the Soup Kitchen and Love on Wheels.
An education at PowerKids is definitely more than just getting good grades at school. It includes all dimensions of positive growth, including having the capacity to make wise choices for a well-rounded life, and being able to care for the community and environment to create a better world for all to live in.
