Petaling Jaya, June 1, 2016 – KidZania Kuala Lumpur in partnership with Positive Parenting, an educational programme initiated by the Malaysian Paediatric Association (MPA), recently hosted the third in a series of parenting workshops, themed “Let’s Talk Teens”. Taking place over two days, the workshop-cum-forum featured four expert speakers in an on-going initiative to provide parents with practical tips on various aspects of child health and development.
“At Kidzania Kuala Lumpur we advocate experiences that empower children to ‘Learn Life Today’. Moving in tandem with that initiative, through partnerships with Positive Parenting to host workshops like these, we are also making it part of our mission to provide parents with valuable resources and access to experts such as paediatricians and developmental psychologists who are able to advise and help us all to raise healthy and happy children,” said Susanah Abdul Rani, Governor of KidZania Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

The KidZania Kuala Lumpur and Positive Parenting workshop-cum-forum are aimed at providing professional guidance for parents through many phases of child development. The recent workshops – “Let’s Talk Teens” addressed potential challenges faced by children who are transitioning into their adolescence and how parents can better equip themselves to support and guide their children through the transition.
The series of four talks, held over the weekend featured four experienced child experts. On Saturday, Clinical Psychologist Dr Alvin Ng shared how parents can relate to teens and understand what ‘makes them tick’ in his talk Sheer Driving Pressure: Navigating Your Way with Teens, while Consultant Paediatrician Dr Yong Junina Fadzil recommended strategies for parents to find a healthy balance in their children’s use of electronic gadgets.
On Sunday, Behavioural Psychologist Mr Alexius Cheang delved into character-building, with the premise that ‘It’s Easier to Build a Strong Child than to Repair a Broken Adult’ before Developmental Paediatrician Dr Rajini Sarvanathan closed the session with the most difficult topic: ‘Talking About the Birds & the Bees’ – how to talk to teens about sex and sexuality.

“These are relevant issues that children and parents need to face together. We hope that these sessions will help them to take the first step to building stronger family relationships,” said Susanah.
