Additional Information:
Founded in 1987, Eduwis Education has developed one of the most established and trusted programmes in its field. Throughout its long history, Eduwis Elite is the group’s first company-owned branch to operate in a mall. The facilities are top-notch and allows for a broad range of programming. It includes well-equipped classrooms, key learning corners with banks of accessible resources, computer lab, junior kitchen and indoor playground. The school also ensures children benefit from the amenities that the mall has to offer, namely, an outdoor garden studio where they can be engaged in nature play and use its elements to develop an understanding of the world around them.
Eduwis Elite offers half and full day programmes for children aged 2 to 6 years of age, alongside enrichment classes, emergency daycare, and drop and shop services that are available on weekends. Weekend enrichment classes currently include Little Chef, Little Musician and Little Artist, and are catered to children aged 4 to 12 years of age. It is of strong intention to provide individually oriented and semi-child centred instruction to guide all children to reach their potential within the core academic fields and beyond.
Core learning experiences are guided by the philosophies and developmental theories of early learning by eight key behavioural, cognitive and social theorists. Teaching practices highlights the strengths of the theoretical perspectives of Maria Montessori (living skills), Erik Erikson (psychosocial development), Lev Vygotsky (language and social skills), Confucius (moral and spiritual values), Reggio Emilia (creative learning), Jean Piaget (mental development [cognitive and critical thinking]), Shinichi Suzuki (music learning and appreciation), and Friedrich Froebel (natural environment).
The programmes aim to nurture the whole child through a thematic approach, whereby diverse learning areas of the curriculum are connected together within a unifying theme. Thematic units integrate English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, Early Math, Early Science, Creative Arts (drawing/art and craft), Music (piano/music and movement), ICT, Moral, General Studies, indoor activities (drama/puppet show/dance) and outdoor activities for a well-balanced learning experience. This method of instruction is a powerful tool for children to make sense of what they are learning, make connections to transfer knowledge and apply it in a meaningful way, retain information, as well as to keep children of all learning abilities engaged throughout the learning process.
Lessons are carefully organized around each child’s unique needs, abilities and interests. A daily schedule of hands-on activities is built in to support active learning through discovery, exploration and independent knowledge construction. Children learn and play in a balanced setting that actively teaches both academic and social skills. They get to create and experiment in various learning corners, and also learn in structured lessons. Learning corners include science, maths, music, art and craft, home, reading corners and more. These learning corners strongly promote effective learning and heightened levels of involvement. Close attention is placed upon building a foundation of essential skills – intellectual, social, emotional, communication, conflict management and motor skills. The school emphasizes the importance of conserving the natural environment by supplementing learning with recycled teaching resources.
Within its programming are a host of yearly activities and plentiful presentation opportunities. Children get to participate in percussion and NANTA musical productions, storytelling, puppet shows, sports days, concert and graduation day performances, field trips, and mathematics and drawing competitions.
It is a goal to ensure that all children are developmentally on track and ready for formal schooling. Observations, assessments, projects and portfolios allow educators to accurately capture performance, celebrate achievements and adequately reflect on teaching approaches. Effective curriculum delivery is augmented by monthly teacher training sessions and ongoing support. Educators are also entitled placement in professional development programmes to enhance their subject knowledge and pedagogical expertise. Another key initiative the school actively pursues to maximize the value of early learning is building a strong culture of parental engagement. Besides organizing an array of parental involvement activities throughout the academic year, yearly parenting workshops help families support learning at home and student success in school with curriculum-related activities and other school planning decisions.
