Creative Robotics (CR8 Kepong), Kepong offers fun LEGO robotics classes for 5- to 15-year-olds. The centre aims to inspire the next generation of students to be creative and confident team players who will be able make a change in tomorrow’s world using STEM concepts and technology. One of the most notable features of CR8 (pronounced as “create”) is that it’s accredited by the Ministry of Education, and entrusted by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to “lead the nation’s digital economy forward.”
At Creative Robotics (CR8 Kepong), we aim to inspire the science and technology leaders of tomorrow. Together, we build, we learn, we code, and we play.
Robotics covers all S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields in a way that no other subject can, i.e. it’s the mother of all subjects. This comprehensive subject encompasses mechanical, electrical, electronics, control engineering, computer science, technology, mathematics, science, as well as essential soft skills such as creative and logical thinking, problem-solving and innovative skills, teamwork and communication, and self-esteem and confidence. Every element integrated into robotics is vital for modern-day students to succeed in our highly competitive and technology-driven world.
As it was once mentioned on CNBC, “The future of work won’t be about college degrees, it will be about job skills,” and therefore, at CR8 Kepong, they hope to be a catalyst that will accelerate students’ learning curves to better prepare them for the future.
Contrary to traditional beliefs, robotics classes are suitable for both boys and girls. Classes are held on a weekly basis, in small groups of no more than 8 students, for 2 hours per session. Through more than 100 LEGO designs, students learn all aspects of robotics: theory, building out the designs, and programming and controlling their own unique robots. Nothing beats using LEGO as the building blocks; LEGO is powerful in helping students develop better hand-eye coordination, shape and colour recognition, and not to mention, endless creativity. In addition, these classes stimulate and sustain children’s interest in robotics, which will come in handy as they grow up.
School holidays do not mean letting children stay at home and laze around. CR8 Kepong offers exciting LEGO Robotics Holiday Programmes that allow children to spend their time in a much more meaningful way. These workshops are based on interesting themes, during which children will have the opportunity to build functional robots using the iconic LEGO blocks, accomplish set objectives, and challenge their friends.
Competitions are great motivators for improved performance. Every year (pre-pandemic times), students of CR8 Kepong had the chance to participate in prestigious international competitions like the FIRST LEGO League competition and World Creative Robotics Challenge (and CR8 Kepong won the 2018 Creators Challenge [Secondary Category]). Although the international competitions had to be put on hold for the past 2 years, it doesn’t mean students are missing out on other competitions; students still have the opportunity to participate in local competitions, such as the National Robotics Open Competition.
These parent-child workshops are fantastic for parents looking to create a stronger bond with their children. Together, parent and child will embark on an adventurous journey to accomplish the goal of the LEGO Robotics mission, and challenge others in a mini match.
For schools or any other academic institutions who are interested in bringing these beneficial LEGO Robotics classes to their students, CR8 also offers tailored made programmes to suit your curriculum or after-school activity needs.
Since 2014, over 1000 students have benefited from its well-researched and time-tested syllabus. CR8 Kepong strives to carry over this mission of inculcating 21st Century skills through robotics to the next generation of students. Besides paying a lot of attention to every single detail, big and small, from the coaches to the learning environment, what truly sets CR8 Kepong apart is it’s fuelled by passion. It’s not every day that you will see students wanting to remain and teach at the centre, and CR8 Kepong has managed to create this magic. No doubt, it is a great platform for our future talents to kickstart their learning journey in the world of science and technology.
