Australian International School Malaysia (AISM), Seri Kembangan, is Malaysia’s longest established Australian school. It is located in Mines Resort City, in a beautifully spacious environment surrounded by greenery.
AISM, a top international school, consists of the Early Learning Centre (ELC), Junior School, and Middle & Senior School.
Early Learning Centre (ELC)
The Early Learning Centre (ELC) is AISM’s child-centred preschool for kids ages 3 to 5.
Using a combination of the Reggio Emilia approach and the Australian Early Years Learning Framework, students here are equipped with fundamental skills that prepare them for success in school life and beyond.
On top of that, students are encouraged to dive deep into what they are curious about. For example, students in ELC absolutely loved the Lego Movie when it was released, and wanted to learn more about it. This led to them making their own Lego movie with teachers’ help, where they explored different effects used in the film.
In ELC, kids get involved in a variety of fun educational activities that cover areas such as numeracy, literacy, socio-emotional development, and music & movement. They also participate in annual productions, develop motor skills through games and sports, and take part in Buddy Programmes.
International Curriculum with High Standards
AISM offers the Australian Curriculum, which places equal emphasis on academic rigor and the development of valuable life skills. Students who take AISM’s Higher School Certificate (HSC) enables entry into any university your child chooses.
Learning at AISM also prioritises digital literacy, intercultural understanding, creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
Extracurricular Activities
There is a multitude of exciting co-curricular activities that students get to choose from. The options include sports, chess, public speaking, music, pottery and even Quidditch. Every year the programmes offered can change, as activities are offered based on what students are interested in.
Top-tier Facilities
Australian International School Malaysia is housed in a large, purpose-built campus. ELC students get to enjoy both outdoor and indoor learning; with facilities such as a multi-purpose gymnasium, a large outdoor sandpit, and an eating area that is made just for the younger kids.
AISM’s campus also has a well-equipped sports centre, performing arts centre, library, swimming pool, and a science laboratory.
Teaching Kids Mindfulness
As part of their commitment to deliver the best experience for students, AISM invests in mindfulness teaching which helps to support children’s education and wellbeing. The school has a team of certified mindfulness practitioners who assist in spreading this valuable skill across the whole school.
Even the little ones in ELC are taught to use mindfulness in order to maintain focus and relaxation. This has proven especially useful during school closures due to Covid-19, when students had to switch to online learning—but found it hard to pay attention. The children enjoyed practicing mindfulness, and even said it was the highlight of their week.
Highly Qualified Expat Educators
If you’re looking for expert teachers, AISM surely delivers. The school has an international team of highly qualified educators, with every teacher having at least a bachelor’s or master’s degree in education. Each class in Junior School also has an assistant teacher who is locally qualified.
Many assistant teachers and student teachers come to AISM to learn from the school’s professionals.
A Community School
Parents with kids who go to AISM really love the school community. If you choose to join AISM, you’ll find a supportive, vibrant, and international community of families and staff members, working together to create a wonderful experience for all.
Moms and dads are invited to a number of school events, such as International Day, where they can set up stalls with food from their respective countries. During this event, kids will dress in their local outfits, get to feel proud of where they are from and share their culture with others.
Furthermore, AISM makes sure to update parents on their kids’ progress and activities. In the Junior School, for example, parents have access to an app where they get information on what their kids have been up to in lessons. They also get to use that app to communicate with teachers.
Last but certainly not least, AISM has a café on campus where many parents go to have drinks and food. This is a place for community members to get to know one another, and stay on top of what’s happening at school.
