Introduction

Pick up at 1600hrs, drive from Kuching for about 45 mins in the direction of Santubong Fishing Village where we start your cruise at the mouth of the Santubong & Salak Rivers. There is always a chance to spot the elusive and rare Irrawaddy dolphin, which is quite common in this area. Sightings are, however, not guaranteed. Continue your cruise along the Salak River and enter the tributaries at the Kuching Wetlands National Park. Marvel the lush mangrove forest and if the tide is out see the mudskippers and blue crabs on the river banks and maybe the odd crocodile. Kingfishers and other birdlife are also commonly seen and more commonly watch the Chinese Egrets fly back in close over the water in formation back towards their roosting area. Occasionally long-tailed macaques, silver langurs and families of proboscis monkeys may be seen in the mangroves. Your cruise will also take you past Kampong Salak, a small quaint Malay fishing village on an island. End your cruise at Kampong Santubong and transfer to your hotel. We will end the cruise as late as 8.00 pm as we will need for darkness to fall before delighting in the Fireflies putting on a show for us.

Since you just might be exposed to the hot tropical sun in the earlier part of the cruise we strongly recommend that you bring along a cap, sun shades and sun block. Insect repellent is also recommended.

Kuching Wetlands National Park which cover an area of 6,610 hectares on the estuarine reaches of the Sibu Laut and Salak rivers is about 15km from Kuching. The park is mostly comprised of a saline mangrove system which include an extensive networks of marine waterways and tidal creeks. The park is an important spawning and nursery ground for fish and prawn species including a huge variety of other wildlife native to the area.

It's a two to three hours cruise.
