Playwright Childcare Centre, Ipoh offers a happy, nurturing environment where children will feel loved and worthwhile. From as young as 14 months old, children are encouraged to play in the right ways that promote optimal holistic development, as suggested by the name of the centre – Playwright. Days filled with laughter and joy, learning alongside friends, creating an ideally happy lives for oneself, and strengthening bonds as a school community – this is Playwright Childcare Centre.
Founded 2 years ago, Playwright stemmed from the founder’s passion for education and working with children. “We know that children are filled with sparkling imaginations and being able to embrace this through our creative learning and stimulating curriculum that inspires a lifelong love of learning excites me every day. One child at a time, we hope to be able to impact the lives of children positively and profoundly, while retaining a sense of playfulness in all of us. This is central to our motto – Joy of Growth,” she says.
The centre features a clean, simple layout fitted with colourful patterns of furniture and an outdoor compound, which many new preschools lack these days. Spaces inside are carefully designed and arranged to accommodate different activities, as well as for children to move around with ease. Parents can be assured that children will be safe as stringent health and safety regulations such as cleaning, sanitising, childproofing all areas, food safety, and secure pick ups and drop offs, are in place round-the-clock.
Understanding that all children have their own uniqueness, Playwright integrates a blend of the best educational approaches, including Montessori, Waldorf, STEAM, Bank Street and game-based methods, into its curriculum. There is never a dull moment here. The centre engages children in a plethora of activities and events to foster their passion for learning. Aside from the 3 main languages of English, Mandarin and Bahasa Melayu, Playwright programmes also include Mathematics, Science and Moral education. As communication skills are vital to children’s overall growth in their early years, teachers create many opportunities to encourage language and verbal development, such as show and tell, role play, puppet play and storytelling.
In addition, there is a focus on promoting movement-based learning since it can benefit children in a vast number of ways. Through sports, pool play, indoor and outdoor play, children build strength and develop better motor skills; they sing, dance and play musical instruments to learn the sounds and meanings of words, as well as practice self-expression.
While many children have little or no contact with the natural world around them, Playwright preschoolers are taught the importance of caring for the environment. By going on nature walks, children listen to the birds and insects, and learn about plants and the natural habitats of animals. Preschoolers plant their own herb gardens and do their part for the environment in gotong royong activities. The habit of recycling is further reinforced in the centre where children are encouraged to reuse, reduce and recycle. Together, they make a difference to our shared environment with their green efforts.
Furthermore, field trips, charity fairs, and cultural celebrations like Chinese New Year, Merdeka Day, Halloween, Deepavali, Children’s Day and Christmas also find a place in the yearly school schedule. When school is out, holiday programmes provide children with fun and engaging theme-based activities.
At the end of a child’s time spent at Playwright, s/he would have achieved these learning outcomes: discipline and responsibility; reading and writing skills; early maths and logical thinking skills; mastery of languages; social and emotional development; problem-solving skills; creativity in arts and music; senses and environmental acquaintances; and physical skills.
Teachers at Playwright recognise the vital role that they play in managing classroom behaviours, ensuring children feel secure and cared for, and establishing positive relationships with the whole school community. They teach in small class sizes, devoting themselves to knowing each child’s strengths and needs, and will always make time to listen to their joys or concerns. This applies to the parents too. Teachers work closely with parents and establish a good two-way communication to keep them up to date. For those who bring their children to Playwright Childcare Centre, you are joining a community of shared expectations, one that wants the best for its children, leads them seamlessly into big school and sets them up for a bright future.
