The building that housed the People Museum (Muzium Rakyat) was previously occupied by the Melaka Municipal Council (MPMT) before being taken over by the State Museum Corporation (PERZIM). Located on the first floor of the People Museum Complex, People Museum was officiated by the Prime Minister of Malaysia on 15 April 1992.
