The Gunung Keriang Recreation Park, which is located at 12 km from the heart of Alor Setar City is one of the major tourist attractions in the state of Kedah. The park is a natural habitat for hundreds of tree and plants species. Gunung Keriang or Mount Keriang is an elephant shaped mountain located amidst flat paddy field of the state of Kedah. Its caves, Gua Keriang is rich in crystals formation that comes in difference colours and shapes like porcupine, starfish, tetragonal, hexagonal etc which is a feng shui favourites to the Chinese. Crystal enthusiasts will enjoy the cave exploration or excavation activities that one can embark upon in this fantastic nature park. Only certain crystal caves be opened for excavation by locals while other could be opened for show cave tourism. The locals who stay near the foothills believed that the crystals found here were among the world's best and are 'alive'. They believed that with proper care and nurture, the crystals would grow and glow particularly when shone with lights. It is said that crystals not only used as a decorative items but they do posses positive energy and healing powers. Many visitors come here in order to buy the crystals for health reasons and for good feng shui that would bring good fortune and wealth to the owners or collectors. The mountain also offers a wonderful panoramic view at the peak and adventure activities like jungle trekking, camping, jungle jogs and caving.
