Kiddy123 recently organized a charity donation drive survey that took place from 15th August to 30th September. With the help of everyone who took part in the survey, we were able to raise RM1,000. Kiddy123 also made further contributions by purchasing appliances and goods for the Shelter.
Shelter is a registered welfare organization that houses abused, neglected, and at-risk children. There are 3 Shelter homes currently housing children from the age of 4 to 18 years old. Kiddy123 paid a visit to Shelter on 17th Oct 2014, to understand more about their tireless efforts in protecting and taking care of these unfortunate children.
We were received by Mr. Cheok, the home’s General Manager and Marian, the Public Relations Executive for Shelter. They warmly welcomed us with big smiles, making us feel right at home. Some of the children have just got home from school so we went into Mr. Cheok’s office to have a small talk first before we take a look around the place. We learnt a lot from him about the background of Shelter and we get to understand more about what they do.
As Shelter’s General Manager, Mr. Cheok sees to the home’s daily needs and organise community services. Among the services provided by Shelter, other than housing abused and neglected children are; community support, parent’s support network, Juvenile Advocacy Program and Micro Credit Program for Single Parents. Other than that, Shelter also provide advice and counselling services on matters relating to children for any parents or families who are in need of assistance.
After a short interview, Mr. Cheok and Marian showed us around the place, explaining to us the daily activities of the kids. By now, the children of the home were having some free time so we got the chance to talk and get to know them. We went to Shelter 1, so the children here are from the ages of 4 years old to 12 years old. They were a bunch of cheerful children and had no problem chatting with us.
Before we left, Kiddy123’s CEO, Mr. Cheong presented Mr. Cheok with a cheque and also appliances and goods that were bought for the home. kiddy123 presented the home with a Samsung microwave and new set of water filter. We felt that it was a small contribution from our end compared to the efforts and expenses required by the home, but the donation and contribution was very well received by Shelter and they would like to extend their personal gratitude to each and everyone who was involved in raising the funds for their home.
The visit to Shelter really opened up our eyes on the efforts of others in helping to make the world a better place and also make us realize how much it really takes to run a charity organisation.
