From 15th August to 30th September 2014, Kiddy123.com has conducted a survey on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) in Malaysia. This survey was participated by 328 parents who have children of the appropriate age for early childhood education as well as parents who send their children to any type of ECCE centers.
The result has provided Kiddy123.com with a great insight on what parents are looking for when it comes to ECCE
78% of them are from KL & Selangor
Top 3 centers parents send their children to: - Kindergarten (69%) Nursery (28%) Enrichment Classes (16%)
45% of parents spend an average of RM 500 - RM 1000 per month on ECCE for one child. 9.5% spend about RM 1000 - RM 1500 per month.
85% of them would like to receive updates about ECCE from time to time
88% parents are interested to attend parenting related workshops and seminars
66% of the parents have tried online shopping for children products
Our survey also identifies top 5 concerns that parents have when it comes to choosing an ECCE center for their children. They are: Location, Cleanliness, Safety precautions, Facilities and Staff qualifications. If we look closely, the top 5 concerns are mostly about the convenience & the set-up of the ECCE centers, curriculum only comes in later, ranked at 7th, which means the most important thing for parents is a peace-of-mind. They want to make sure their children are well cared for at the centers.
Kiddy123 also asked the parents about how many ECCE centers that they visited before finally choosing the right center for their children.
Majority of the parents participated (93%) personally visited 1 – 6 centers before making their decision. Only about 2% of parents visited more than 10 centers.
This shows that many parents didn’t want to spend too much time and energy going to every possible ECCE center for their children. They tend to survey and make general enquiry first to shortlist the centers of their choice before visiting.
In fact, 56% of the parents who took part in this survey said they prefer to search for information about ECCE centers on the Internet. This method has save their time tremendously.
Based on the findings below, more than 90% of the parents agreed that ECCE centers should have a website for their center, or at least have an online presence, such as Facebook page, blog or even get listed on related online directory (eg: kiddy123.com).
Other than that, 87% of parents agreed that good online presence does help to boost their confidence in an ECCE center. With the ease of technology and Internet, this finding is not surprising and in fact expected.
This survey tells a lot of stories. it make me feel comfortable as a new parent which thing i should look into for my children.
