“Above all else, to thine own self be true……” is a line from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. This famous line very aptly describes Madam Amy Tang, the principal of Kids Home. There is a certain sensitivity and humbleness in her voice when she speaks. You feel the warmth emanating from her words. The words embrace you and you know that she speaks from her heart.

“I have been an educator for many years and this is my new kindergarten slash nursery slash enrichment centre,” Madam Tan chuckles. True to herself, she continues, “As you can see, the décor is rather sparse and now and then you might even get a whiff of turpentine and paint. But rest assured that my Team and I are determined to provide the best care and guidance that we can for the children in our care.”

Kids Home caters to children from two to six years old and operates from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm from Mondays to Fridays. Meals are provided and transportation can be arranged.

In a fully air-conditioned prepared environment, Kids Home has an indoor playground, a well-resourced library and multimedia equipment for the utilization of its IDP Programme. Being sparsely furnished, it has ample space for the children to move about, to explore and to engage with both teachers and their peers.

Applying a thematic approach that is consistent with the Malaysian Preschool Education Programme, a curriculum consisting of Mathematics, Science and Nature Exploration, Moral Education, Art and Craft, Physical Education, Music and Movement and the three main languages of English, Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin are on offer at Kids Home. To supplement the already extensive curriculum, Kids Home also have Baking and Cooking classes, occasional Educational Field trips and their very own IDP Programme.

IDP is the abbreviated form for Intelligent Development Programme. This is a whole brain stimulation programme via flash cards. But instead of getting the teachers to flash the cards until their arms drop off, this programme uses computer technology to flash images onto a flat screen – thus saving the teachers a whole lot of grief and at the same time allowing for a quicker rate of absorption by the students. This programme is available in all three major languages, English, Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin. And every student’s phonics and spelling ability and absorption rate is meticulously recorded and is available to the parents at any time.

At Kids Home, the focus is on small student groups, eight to ten students per class. Students are grouped according to their developmental and cognitive ability and not their age. The prepared environment guides the children and they are free to explore their environment at their own pace. This flexible system removes the pressure to advance quickly, allowing the children to live and experience fully their precious childhood years.

As Mohandas Gandhi put it so well, “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony". We do not doubt that Kids Home will deliver on its promises. So, let us embark on a voyage of discovery and learning with Madam Amy Tang and Kids Home as they take us on a magical journey through the vast ocean of knowledge.
