In the heart of Section 31, Kota Kemuning along Persiaran Anggerik Vanilla, there is a magical place called CreativAR. And in this place of a thousand wonders lives a young wizard who goes by the name of Vince Ling. In his magical kingdom, wizard Vince works his sorcery to bring creativity and reality to life.
In the early years as a young apprentice, Vince travelled far and wide. Of the many faraway lands that he set foot on, Vince especially loved the mysterious and enchanted shores of China – the land of Mulan and Confucius. Here, Vince experienced the infinite wisdom of Confucius and the gentle but tenacious warrior spirit of Mulan. Vince was smart, he observed, he learnt and he applied. As the years went by, out of the many experiences and seeds that were planted in his mind – one started to grow. It grew and it grew.
Until one day, it dawned on him that since the children of today are blessed with easily assessable knowledge through the myriad of gadgets available, why not make this experience an EDUCATIONAL one! EUREKA!!! The earth moved, bells rang out, the bath waters overflowed and the sun shone brightly over the wizard’s castle. Malaysia’s first AR (Augmented Reality) kids learning programme was born.
Augmented Reality, loosely explained is the process of superimposing graphics, audio and other sensory enhancements over a real-world environment in real time. It blurs the line between what’s real and what’s computer generated by enhancing what we see, hear, feel and even smell.
The maiden roll out from CreativAR is a learning pack aptly named Augmented Reality Adventure Colouring Set. This set has been designed for children aged three and above. And is targeted specially at children who are in nurseries and preschools. It contains a set of four amazing CreativAR colouring books (World Buildings, World Sports, Fruits and Vegetables, Animal theme) and a box of 12-piece CreativAR Oil Pastels all packed in a beautifully designed CreativAR folder.
This maiden AR set can be used as a complement to a standard curriculum. It combines technology and traditional printed paper based books to present illustrations and video that seem to come alive without requiring the child to navigate to web based materials. “We believe that children learn more easily through interactive experiences,” says Vince. “Our printed materials are designed with certain “trigger” images that, when scanned by a device using our AR Family application, activate a video version of the image. We have also overlaid multiple media in the view screen such as image share buttons, in-page audio and 3D objects.”
This AR Adventure Colouring set is a perfect tool to balance the present-day debate between play based and academic based learning. It has elements from both schools of thought and will satisfy even the most critical of parents, with its colour, scan and learn concept. After experiencing Augmented Reality, learning will never be quite the same again. When AR educational content becomes readily available, a child does not need to stick to their textbooks for learning anymore. They can access this virtual content anytime, anywhere. This would enable them to pursue their interests at their own pace and convenience. By overlaying information on the existing environment, AR allows a child to be immersed in the virtual environment thus providing them with an enhanced learning experience.
By wanting to make this AR technology readily and easily available to the masses, CreativAR has designed their materials so that anyone with a smartphone or tablet and who has their AR Family application and related materials can easily and quickly bring their learning experience to life! The whole family can hear the frightening roar of a lion or you can experience being in France in front of the iconic Eiffel Tower. A powerful tool to spur the imagination, children as well as parents can use these wonderful books to create stories of adventure and travels to far off enchanted places – giving free creative reign to their active and fertile imaginings. The whole family can travel “Around the World in 80 days” visiting the Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal and Statue of Liberty. They can also transport themselves to Kenya, Africa where they nurture a young lion cub named Elsa in “Born Free”. The possibilities are limitless! And the best part of all this is that the children as well as their parents are learning and interacting while they are having so much fun!
AR learning classes, Art and Craft classes, Speech and Drama classes and school holiday programmes are also available if you go to wizard Vince’s castle in Section 31, Kota Kemuning. You might get luckyand it could be the wizard himself who welcomes you at the castle doors! And if you do pass that way on a dark quiet night and you see flashes of light and the twinkle of stardust from the wizard’s window, fear not, for Vince and his circle of wizards are hard at work bringing the children of the world the next installments of their AR based activities and programmes.
